Ohana Isn't Just another Kava Bar

In Colorado Springs, there’s no shortage of places to grab some kava - but people keep coming back to Ohana because we’ve built something deeper than a drink menu chasing a trend. Every detail here is intentional, from what’s in your cup to the vibe around you.
We were the first to do it in Colorado Springs, among the first couple dozen kava bars in the entire country, and we’ve learned a lot along the way. That history shows up in everything: our authenticity, the quality of every pour, and the modern twist we’ve woven into a tradition that’s thousands of years old.
Ohana Kava Bar has helped shape the kava culture of Colorado... and we’re far from finished. Our story is still being written, both here where we started and across the U.S.
When you need to pause the hustle and step into a tropical haven designed for relaxation, connection, and renewal, Ohana will be here waiting for you. Our logo is more than a symbol - it’s a signpost for a local landmark built on calm, community, and shared experience.

What is Kava?
Kava, often called the “Pacific Elixir,” is a calming, non-alcoholic drink made from the root of the Piper methysticum plant. Used in the South Pacific for over 3,000 years, it’s known for promoting relaxation, connection, and a clear, social state of mind.
Traditionally prepared by kneading the ground root into water, kava is still served this way across the islands today. The most prized preparations are made from noble varieties - types valued for their balanced, predictable effects and smooth, pleasant experience.
Modern kava products now extend beyond the traditional root-and-water brew. Ready-to-drink beverages, concentrated shots, tinctures, and capsules - all derived from the plant’s root - make it easier than ever to enjoy kava, whether at a bar, on the go, or as part of a daily wellness routine.
What Does Kava Feel Like?
Kava Safety, Dosage, and Overdoing It
Kava is considered safe for most adults when used responsibly - especially when prepared from traditional noble varieties, which have been consumed in the South Pacific for centuries and are valued for their balanced, predictable effects. But like anything, too much can make the experience unpleasant, and it’s not suitable for everyone.
If you have any medical conditions, take prescription medications, are pregnant or nursing, or are unsure how kava might interact with your health, you should speak with a qualified healthcare professional before consuming it.
Overdoing it can cause negative and uncomfortable effects. Most who overconsume simply end up on a couch wondering why they didn’t stop sooner.
The safest approach is moderation: give your body time to feel the effects before consuming more and always listen to how you feel. Never mix kava with alcohol, sedatives, or anything that affects the liver or central nervous system.
Kava Legality in The US
Kava is legal in the United States and can be sold, purchased, and consumed in all 50 states. Although there are legal age restrictions on kava, Ohana serves kava to guests 18 and older. Some of our other drinks require 21+ age due to restrictions.
Kava is regulated as a dietary supplement rather than a controlled substance, and it’s widely available in lounges, cafés, and wellness spaces across the country as an alcohol-free social beverage.
And if you’re planning to travel, you can usually bring kava within the U.S. without issue, but it’s smart to check customs regulations if flying internationally.
